Vegan Supplements: What to Check Before You Buy
Choosing vegan supplements? Learn what to check on ingredient lists, capsule labels and daily portions, including ginger capsules with vitamin C.
A supplement can look perfectly at home on your shelf and still need a closer look at its label. When choosing vegan supplements, start with what you need, what is in the complete formula and how the product fits the rest of your routine.
Start with your nutritional needs
Following a vegan diet does not mean every plant-based supplement is essential. The NHS vegan diet guide explains that a balanced approach can include fortified foods and supplements, with attention to nutrients such as vitamin B12, vitamin D, iodine, calcium and selenium.
A ginger supplement has a different purpose from a product intended to provide those nutrients. Pocket Shots should not be treated as a complete multivitamin or a replacement for a varied diet. Decide which question you are trying to answer before adding another product to your basket.
Check the whole ingredient list
Read beyond the headline ingredient. For a capsule, look at the filling and the shell, and check the manufacturer's vegan suitability statement. If the information is unclear, ask for confirmation rather than assuming a botanical ingredient makes the whole product vegan.
Vegan suitability also does not tell you everything about allergies, the amount of an ingredient or its evidence. Those are separate questions worth checking. Our product FAQs cover common Pocket Shots suitability questions, and you can contact Erha if you need a detail clarified.
Compare the same daily portion
A label may list quantities per capsule while the suggested daily portion contains more than one. Compare like with like. Check how many capsules are in the pack, how many the directions specify and how much of each ingredient that portion provides.
For ginger products, distinguish ginger powder, extract and gingerol content. Our guide to gingerols explains those differences. A larger headline number is not enough to establish that one supplement is the better choice for you.
Keep ingredient claims separate
Vitamin C and ginger are different ingredients with different evidence. Our vitamin C, energy and immunity guide explains the nutrient's recognised roles without promising an instant fix for tiredness. For digestive questions, read what research says about ginger and gut health.
Words such as “natural” should not replace clear quantities, directions or suitability information. Look for explanations you can check, rather than choosing solely by the language on the front of the pack.
Make room for a routine that suits you
Think about the practical details too: taste, format, storage directions and whether taking a capsule works for you. Read the label before combining products, and ask a pharmacist or clinician if you are unsure whether a supplement is suitable alongside medicines or an existing condition.
